Metadata editor available in Audirvana

Press release | The term "metadata" describes all the non-musical information contained in an audio file such as Cover Art, Title, Album, Artist, Composer, Year, etc. They are essential to browse, identify and sort your music files.

Whenever you add a new folder in your synced local music library, Audirvana retrieves all of the available metadata and stores a copy in its database. This allows you get much faster access to your library. Audirvana does not add new metadata, except a default album name - using the disc folder name - in case that information is missing.

Thanks to its metadata editor, Audirvana allows you to view, modify and complete the metadata of your local music directly from the software's main view. You can open the editor by clicking on the tag icon on the right side of the interface. There you can edit the general information of your file: Cover, Title, Grouping, Artist, Composer, Genre, Track#, CD#, Year, BPM and the Rating. An extended metadata section dedicated to classical music – Soloist, Conductor, Ensemble, Instrument, Style and Period – is also available. Every change you make is saved both in Audirvana's database and in the original file.

"Sort as" allows you to modify the title of a track or of an album to facilitate the sorting and creation of smart playlists, example: "Greatest Hits" instead of "The Greatest Hits".
The metadata of the tracks and albums played from a streaming service can be displayed but can't be edited. They are provided by music labels, and are often limited to the Cover Art, Title, Album and Artist. Some streaming services like Qobuz include more metadata, such as the composer.

If you rip a CD, make sure to use your CD ripper to get the metadata online, as CDs do not contain it. If you rip an SACD, you will need to generate a DSF or DFF file to be able to edit your metadata in Audirvana. Keep in mind that Audirvana does not edit cue sheets.
