It is a mystery why Olu Dara, notwithstanding a brilliant and intense musical activity that has seen him ranging over genres and expressive forms, has realized only two records under his name.
One of these records is remarkable indeed. Here jazz, African and Caribbean music are blended together in a succession of rhythmic and melodic inventions, in an original blues, always very fascinating and refined. In every track you feel that the entire story of the black music - Don Cherry, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan, Lightnin’ Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, and certainly Taj Mahal – is there, masterfully metabolized by the lucid talent of this singular musician.
